RAJOURI, Aug 27: The people from Sunderbani town and adjoining villages including Lower / Upper Bajwal, Kalideh and several other hamlets held strong protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities for very low voltage and frequent unscheduled power cuts in the area.
A large number of people of the town and villages, including local traders/ Beopar Mandal members came out on the road at main chowk, Sunderbani and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway by raising barricades. Some of them sat on dharna on the road while others started shouting loud slogans against the PDD authorities. They alleged that people were facing worst kind of hardships due to poor supply of electricity. The people have been forced to pay heavy bills while the services to the consumers are very poor. This is happening for the last over three months now.
The locals alleged that the existing transformers ere over load. There is requirement of additional transformer in the town. Due to over load, they get damaged frequently and the department takes weeks for their replacement or repair. They demanded at least three additional transformers in the area to meet the challenge. With the protest, movement of vehicles remained disrupted on the busy highway for about an hour between 11 am and 12 noon.
Later, Tehsildar Sunderbani, Jatinder Singh and SHO Navin Angral reached the spot and pacified the protesting people. On the assurance of the tehsildar, the people then lifted dharna.
