Protest against police, revenue authorities

AKHNOOR, June 18: A large number of local residents gathered at main chowk, Sungal Morh in Akhnoor today and held protest against Revenue and Police authorities whom they alleged to be hand in glove with some elements encroaching a shop located in main market during midnight.
Locals of Sungal Morh market shut their shops to protest in support of Madan Lal, a shopkeeper whose shop was alleged to be encroached during midnight. The aggrieved shopkeeper alleged that there was dispute between him and another party for the shop regarding which matter was already pending in the Court. He said that he is in possession of the said shop for the last 7-8 years but on Thursday night some hired goons broken the locks of shop and looted the goods and encroached the shop.
He said revenue and police authorities were apprised about the same but they didn’t respond timely because of which they were forced to come on roads today. The protesting people blocked main road for some time demanding stern action against the culprit.
Meanwhile, SDPO Varun Jandyal and SHO, Hilal Azhar reached the spot and persuaded the protesters and engaged them for talks and in the presence of the dignitaries of the town after which they locked the shop and handed over the key to Tehsildar Surinder Singh. It was decided that on Monday matter will be resolved.
