POONCH, Jan 6: Residents of Plera, Chikhri Ban and Mahrkote areas in Tehsil Mandi staged protest against power cuts during night hours.
The protestors raised slogans against Power Development Department and said that despite paying exorbitant electricity bills on time, the concerned department has failed to provide power as per schedule due to which general public is suffering badly.
Beside protest by the residents of these areas at Plera, people from different areas of Loran and Arai villages have also communicated that they are fed up with these untimely cuts but despite approaching the department, this problem is not being redressed.
An elected representative, Ajaz Ahmed said that grid station of these areas in Loran is having too much load and department needs to bifurcate that for better power supply.
AEE, PDD Mandi Shiv Raj Sharma when contacted said that the use of heating appliances in winter season sheds heavy load and less generation of the electricity at the same time is its reason, while there is electricity curtailment from the grids also.
“Department is trying its best to provide power everywhere as per schedule but people also needs to co-operate by restraining the use of locally used heating appliances”, he added.
