MENDHAR, June 23: The residents of Mohra Kallar in Mendhar Sub Divsion of Poonch district staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) on Sunday, demanding a higher capacity power transformer.
The protesters even brought along the damaged transformer and blocked the Parnai Project Road for almost an hour. A 63 KV transformer presently installed at the village is unable to bear the load and gets frequently damaged, they said while demanding a 250 KV transformer.
The residents had earlier disconnected the high tension wires passing through their village, leaving village Mohra Kallar under darkness. The aggrieved residents said that the transformer was damaged around fifteen times in last three months and authorities were not installing a 250 KV transformer to resolve the problem.
“Despite paying power bills on time we are being deprived of electricity from last many months,” one of the residents said.
