RAJOURI, Apr 19: Annoyed over the non-payment of several works done by the villagers in various Panchayats in Kalakot block under Rural Development Department, a large number of villagers gathered at Kalakot Bus Stand under the leadership of BJP leader Thakur Randhir Singh and held strong protest.
They were shouting loud slogans against the RDD authorities and the District administration and demanding immediate release of their pending payments.
Taking a dig at the officers and other employees, they expressed their anger. They alleged that many villagers were not paid for the development works that they got executed in the village Panchayats. They have been forced to come out on the roads.
During the demonstration, Sarpanch Talayot Dewan Singh said that many works were done in his Panchayat and he himself also got several works done whose payment is in lakhs and they were not paid for it.
Sarpanch alleged that commission was also taken by the officials for all the works, but despite this the payment for those works was not made due to the reason best know to them.
BJP leader Thakur Randhir Singh, who was leading the protest, also said that a few days back he had gone to the Rural Development Department’s office on the same issue and warned them that the work done by the people in the Panchayats should not be compared to the work done by them. The work payments should be paid, because people have been facing starvation.
He warned that if no seriousness is shown in this regard then they will protest with new strategy and agitation will be launched on a large scale at Rajouri district headquarter.
