RAJOURI, Apr 4: A massive protest was held at Kotranka town of district Rajouri following Friday prayers, as hundreds of locals gathered to voice their strong opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill. The protestors raised serious concerns regarding the implications of the bill and unanimously demanded its immediate rollback.
Chanting slogans and holding placards, the demonstrators expressed their discontent, stating that the bill is not in the interest of the Muslim community and directly interferes with the religious and administrative autonomy of the Waqf institutions. They asserted that the amendment threatens to centralize control and undermines the community’s long-standing rights over their religious endowments and properties.
Local religious leaders, civil society members, and prominent citizens addressed the gathering. The speakers emphasized the need to preserve the sanctity and independence of the Waqf system and urged the Government to reconsider the move in the larger interest of communal harmony and religious freedom.
