UDHAMPUR, Nov 6: A protest demonstration against price hike of essential commodities at ration depots was held today here at Slathia Chowk under the leadership of Congress leader and INTUC State secretary, Sumeet Magotra.
The protesters gathered at Slathia Chowk and raised slogans against the State and the Centre Government. They also burnt the effigy of the Government.
While addressing, Magotra said that Government has raised the price of essential commodities like wheat and rice by almost 60%. He highlighted that the ration from depots is generally taken by the poor people and by raising the price the Government has put an extra burden on their pockets.
“Earlier, the Government has failed to control the prices of cereals and petrol and now by raising the prices of essential commodities at depots it clearly visible that the Government has failed on all fronts”, he said and warned the Government to roll back the prices as soon as possible or he will hold strong protests at block levels.
