Protest held over custodial death

REASI, Nov 23: Following death of a youth in Police custody at Katra Police Station last night, family members and relatives of the deceased held a strong protest demonstration demanding justice.
The deceased, identified as Arjun Kumar (26), son of Mohinder Kumar of Kotli Bajalna in Katra, alleged attempted to escape from Police custody and jumped off from the rooftop of Police Station resulting into his death.
SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta told the Excelsior that a Magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the case for ascertaining the cause and circumstances of death while investigation under Section 176 CrPC has also been initiated.

The deceased was allegedly involved in theft and NDPS cases and he along with another accused was taken to Police Station Katra for questioning. In an attempt to escape from the Police custody, Arjun Kumar rushed towards rooftop by using stairs and jumped off resulting into fatal head injury. He was brought to the local hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead.
However, family members and relatives of the deceased held a strong protest demonstration over custodial killing and demanded stern action against the Policemen responsible for death of Arjun Kumar.
The protesting people also blocked road following which senior Police and Civil officers reached the spot and announced Magisterial inquiry into the case.
Later, dead body of the deceased was handed over to the family members after conducting a postmortem by a board of doctors.
