RAJOURI, Dec 28: Residents of Akhori and Patti Planghar today expressed their outrage against the Public Works Department (PWD) over the deplorable condition of the road connecting their villages.
The locals staged a strong protest raising slogans against the PWD for its alleged negligence, as the road has become almost unmotorable and poses severe risk to commuters.
The protesters highlighted that the absence of a proper drainage system has led to extensive damage to the road at several locations. At certain points, the road has turned into a death trap, with deep potholes on one side and a perilous gorge on the other. They warned that any vehicle skidding off the road could result in tragic loss of life.
According to the locals, the poor condition of the road has particularly impacted school-going children, as school buses often drop them far from their destinations due to the inability to traverse the damaged stretches. Patients are still being carried on shoulders to reach the nearest road, and elderly individuals are facing immense difficulties due to the lack of proper connectivity.
The residents expressed their anger, stating that despite repeatedly raising the issue with authorities at various levels, no action has been taken. They urged the Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, to personally visit the site and witness the dire condition of the road.
