JAMMU, July 5: Retired police officers and fire service personnel today staged a protest at Hari Singh Park here under the leadership of Ajit Singh, Chairman of the Non-Gazetted Police Pensioner Welfare Forum (NGPPWF).
The protestors raised several issues with the Government, highlighting a persistent pay anomaly.
While addressing the media persons, Ajit Singh said that Government Order number 229 F of 2014 addressed the pay discrepancy prospectively from the date of the order, instead of from 1996 when the 5th Pay Commission was implemented.
He demanded retrospective effect to the order to benefit both deceased and surviving retirees.
The forum also sought paramilitary-level medical facilities, 10% reservation in professional colleges and recruitment for police personnel’s children, and alignment with pension recovery practices in Gujarat and Punjab.
They urged for timely processing of pension papers, emphasizing that many retirees face delays in receiving their benefits.
Additionally, the forum highlighted the irregular payment of salaries to Special Police Officers (SPOs), calling for adherence to a proper schedule.
