Protest in Mandi

Excelsior Correspondent
MANDI, Sept 10: The villagers from Arhai and adjoining areas today held strong protest demonstration against the PWD (R&B) authorities for their failure to complete 8 kms road for which foundation stone was laid about 40 years back.
Residents of the area led by a local social activist, Moulvi Fareed assembled at Arhai and held protest demonstration against the Omar Abdullah-led Coalition Government. They alleged that out of this 8 kms road stretch, earth work was conducted hardly on three and half kilometer portion while the work on the remaining portion was never undertaken.
It was further alleged by the villagers that foundation stone for the road was laid in 1970 and since then no concerned legislator or any minister showed interest in the completion of this road. Now, this 3.5 km portion has also blocked due to land slides and the concerned agency officials not bothered to clear the same. The people of the area were facing lot of hardships. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar/ Naib-Tehsildar Mandi for the concerned Deputy Commissioner, seeking intervention at higher level.
