Protest in Rajouri against water crisis

RAJOURI, June 20: The traders and local people from Rajouri town held massive protest demonstration against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department at main chowk here today.
They were protesting against the concerned authorities for their utter failure to provide drinking water to the people of Rajouri town. The agitators shouted loud slogans against the PHE Minister, Chief Engineer PHE and concerned Executive Engineer. They even criticized the District administration and alleged that it has also failed to provide any relief to the local population which is facing lot of problems due to near collapse of the essential services like water and electricity. The people even burnt the effigy of Minister concerned and broke the pitchers to lodge their protest.
Beopar Mandal Rajouri led the protest demonstration and its president Vijay Gupta strongly criticized the PHE Minister for not keeping his promise. He said on April 29, during meeting with local citizens, PHE minister Taj Mohiuddin had promised to provide water supply twice a day or at least once a day. But now the people are not able to get water even after three days. There is no provision of providing water through tanker supply and the people are left high and dry during these hot summer days.
Mr Gupta alleged that a dug well which was under construction has been abandoned by the PHE authorities due to unknown reasons while bills to the tune of over Rs 12 lakhs have been withdrawn. He demanded inquiry into the matter. He also criticized the local Congress MLA (Shabir Khan, MOS) and sought the intervention of Chief Minister in this regard.
