RAJOURI, Oct 10: People from Thannamandi area led by Block Congress Committee members today held strong protest demonstration against the PDP-BJP Government and disrupted movement of traffic on the road for about two hours today.
A large number of people under the banner of BCC, assembled at Thannamandi Bus Stand and held protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the Mufti Government and projecting their demands. After holding protest there for some time, then they moved towards Shahdara Chowk and blocked road. The movement of traffic remained disrupted for over two hours.
Several local leaders including BCC president Thannamandi Shakeel Mir, Beopar Mandal members and youth leader Imran Khan addressed the gathering. They demanded upgradation of Thannamandi hospital to the level of SDH, availability of medicines, and filling up of vacant posts doctors and para-medical staff, setting of Medical College at old Hospital site in Rajouri, widening of Mughal Road from Rajouri to Bafliaz and providing adequate teaching staff at Govt Degree College Thannamandi.
A large number of vehicles remained stranded on either side of the road for hours together. Many Panchayat members and Congress activists participated in protest programme. They appealed the Government to take serious note of the issues of the Thannamandi area otherwise, people would intensify their agitation.
