NOWSHERA, Mar 22: A massive demonstration and dharna was held outside the office of SDM Nowshera to protest over the irregularities in the relief distribution to the affected people of last year’s flood devastation, heavy loss to the crops due to recent rains and hailstones and supply of wheat grain in place of Atta in the area.
A large number of people including Congress workers assembled near Bus Stand Nowshera and then moved to the office of SDM where they held strong protest demonstration for about two hours. They were shouting slogans raising public issues and also against Governor’s Administration.
While addressing large gathering PCC chief spokesperson and Ex-MLC Ravinder Sharma alleged that there were irregularities in the relief distribution to the affected people of last year’s rains and devastating flood. Many genuine people have been left whereas, several others who suffered less damage or no damage have been compensated. The concerned authorities should ensure that all the genuine left over people are included in the fresh lists for relief/compensation.
Mr Sharma said that in the recent rains and hailstones, the farmers of Sunderbani, Beripattan and part of Nowshera Tehsil have suffered a huge loss. The wheat, vegetables and fruit crops and other live stocks of the farmers have been adversely affected. He urged upon the concerned authorities to immediately rush the relief to the affected people. He said special teams of Revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture etc should be deputed to the affected areas to assess the loss. He demanded free ration for affected people for 6 months.
Expressing serious concern over the shortage of ration at the Govt depots the Ex-MLC blamed previous PDP-BJP Govt for derailing the ration supply system in the State due to unplanned and hasty decision without taking adequate measures. He urged upon the Governor administration to take corrective measures to streamline the supply system. He said that the supply of wheat grain in place of wheat flour (Atta) is not acceptable to the people, as it creates more difficulties for them.
Several persons including Som Nath, HL Bakshi, Tara Chand, Subash Kapoor, Mukund Lal, Isher Singh, Bhimsen Raina, Ram ji Dass Sharma, Capt Ajit Singh and Capt Kuldeep Singh also addressed the gathering.
