JAMMU, Oct 11: The protest of faculty members of Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) against the deferment of the proposal regarding implementation of 6th Pay Commission entered 21st day, today.
The faculty members submitted that all the Government employees are already getting their 6th Pay Commission salary since 2006 besides 3rd installment of arrears whereas the teaching faculty of GCET is still fighting for implementation of 6th Pay Commission in their favour as per AICTE norms.
A number of representation were made to Higher Education Minister and Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education in last three years but nothing substantial has come out of this except verbal assurances from them, they added.
The last protest that was held in this concern in the month of January 2012, was suspended on the assurance given by Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, Madam Tanveer, that their main grievances of 6th Pay Commission and formulation of promotional rules would be addressed by February 29, 2012, they pointed out adding, no relief has been provided till date to us, which has caused gross dissatisfaction and frustration amongst us. On the top of that the deferment of the proposal by the Cabinet for the second time has aggravated our frustration.
The faculty members alleged that despite having professional qualifications from the best institutes across the country, subsequent appointments by J&K Public Service Commission as per AICTE norms from time to time, the teaching faculty is being denied their rightful due in promotions and scales. In such condition, we are left with no option but to show our resentment against this gross injustice by suspending the class work.
