Protest over power crisis

KATHUA, Aug 1: The residents of far-flung village Dhaggar in Bani area held a protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) today for its failure in restoration of power supply in the area.
The protestors took up candle lights in their hands and raised slogans against the Department. The protestors alleged that due to the negligence of PDD people of village Dhaggar are living in darkness from last 20 days. The villagers were forced to protest against Department for ignoring the thick population and not paying any attention towards their problem. Their problems due to power crisis have compounded and people are forced to stay in the dark while children are forced to read in the candle light or in wooden torch lights. A villager Rakesh Thakur said that it is sad to say that the transformer has brunt twice during one month.
The poor people have number of times approached the Department, he added.
The Department is still not responding to solve the problem and people are facing trouble while passing the nights in complete darkness. The Ex Minister, Prem Sagar Aziz alleged that there is no arrangement of spare transformer for hilly areas. The only workshop in the district takes a month to repair the transformer. He has asked the Power Department to open the workshop for repairing the transformers at Bani. So that poor people may not suffer.
