Protest in Ramnagar, bandh observed

RAMNAGAR, Aug 2: Peo-ple held protest and also observed bandh for several hours opposing illegal allotment of Government land and construction  in the town.
The people opposing construction on the Government land came out on the road and started strong protest. They alleged that Auqaf authorities claiming ownership on State land allotted 2 marla land illegally to one Basheer Ahmed of Keermoo,  two years ago while this land pertains to State Government.
The people claimed that there was Government  school on this land for decades before 1986  and after some time Auqaf  authorities started claiming this land. They alleged that this land belonged to State and not Auqaf. They alleged that allotment was illegal and construction be stopped and allotment be cancelled.  Tension gripped in the town and it continued for several hours. The traders also closed their shops and  started protest at the site. The cops failed to contain situation.
Sensing communal tension, SDM Ramnagar Atul Garg and SDPO Ramnagar rushed to the spot and stopped work. The tension was defused.  Later,  shops were opened in the afternoon. The SDM issued order to maintain status quo at the site.
