RAJOURI, Mar 28: The family members and relatives of a young woman, hailing from Dodaj area of Darhal today held strong protest demonstration here, after she allegedly died due to negligence of doctors at District Hospital, Rajouri this afternoon.
The people kept the dead body of deceased woman, Gulnaz Akhtar (37), wife of Mohd Aslam on the road near hospital and disrupted movement of vehicles on busy Rajouri-Darhal/ Thanna-mandi road for about two hours. They were shouting slogans against Hospital Administration, doctors and Health Minister Bali Bhagat.
Reports said that family members of Gulnaz brought her to DH Rajouri last evening after she was feeling giddy . She had turned weak and also feeling uneasiness. A doctor on duty attended her and then she was asked to get admitted in hospital. The family members alleged that during last night her condition deteriorated but there was no doctor to attend the patient in the ward during whole night. During morning time, there was a lady doctor on duty. They requested the doctor to attend the patient and provide required treatment but she preferred to attend other patients in her room. They again after some time approached her to attend the serious patient but she kept on playing on her mobile phone and told them that she will come later.
They said at around 1 pm the patient died and they tried to approach Medical Superintendent but it was learnt that he was on leave and second incharge on duty was also not available. The other doctors sensing trouble escaped here and there.
After this, many relatives of the deceased reached the hospital. The villagers from Dodaj also arrived there. They abused the Medical staff and held them responsible for the death of young woman.
The relatives then took out the body and placed it on Darhal-Thannamandi Road at around 1.30 pm and sat on dharna on the road. They started protest against the Hospital Administration, doctors and Director Health besides Health Minister. They demanded that action be taken against the doctors responsible for the negligence during duty.
Later, DySP Headquarters Jaswant Singh and Tehsildar Rajouri Slam Din arrived there and they assured them to hold an inquiry after taking up the matter with the DC. They also spoke with the DC on phone. On this assurance, the agitating relatives lifted dharna and took away the dead body top their village for last rites.
There is strong resentment among the people of Rajouri against the State Health department due to deteriorating condition in the District Hospital and mal-administration. They said that this hospital has attained dubious distinction of `killing patients’ and only those survive who are blessed by God. The State Health authorities have failed to monitor working of hospitals properly. They demanded streamlining of Administration in Rajouri Hospital.
