JAMMU, Mar 20: In the wake of the recent protest by aggrieved candidates of Jammu division, who were selected in open rally conducted by Border Security Force (BSF) around two years, BSF said that these candidates could not be selected as they failed to make into the final merit list of the allotted vacancies by MHA.
Addressing a press conference, NS Jamwal, DIG, BSF said that a special recruitment drive was carried out in J&K to fill up the vacancies of the year 2011-12 for the post of Constable (GD) in BSF. The recruitment was conducted by two recruiting agencies of BSF—Fr HQ BSF Jammu for Jammu Region and Ftr HQ BSF Srinagar for Kashmir Region respectively. Initially total 698 vacancies were allotted for male candidates, he added.
Accordingly, the notification regarding recruitment was issued by BSF FTR Jammu and medical examination in respect of 1182 candidates of Jammu region who were short listed on the basis of merit in written test were carried out at respective centers, Jamwal said, adding that based on the merit list, 698 advertised vacancies were filled up.
In the meantime, MHA directed to prepare a reserve panel of qualified candidates over and above the advertised vacancies. As such, all remaining candidates—2666 who had qualified in written test and waiting for medical examination, were called to appear before Regional Selection Board at respective centers for medical examination, Jamwal stated.
Total 2217 candidates of J&K were declared medically fit and kept in reserve panel. On the direction of MHA, total 633 vacancies were filled from the reserve list of 2217 candidates. Rest of the candidates could not be selected as they were unable to make into the final merit list according to existing vacancies, Jamwal informed.
