Protesting JU students disrupt inaugural of sports event

JAMMU, Mar 23: Up in arms against `unilateral’ and `biased’ action of the university administration, which suspended four students and banned their entry on the campus for their alleged role in ransacking the office of Dean Students Welfare yesterday,   the JU students today held a strong protest demonstration and also disrupted the inaugural function of State University Sports Championship, this morning.
On the other hand, adopting tough stand  the agitating  students, the JU authorities today ordered suspension of one more student and completely banned his entry on the campus.
Shouting slogans, the protesting students stormed into the university ground where inaugural function of the Sports Championship was being held in the presence of Secretary Sports Council Wahee-ur-Rehman Parra, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma and others.
The protest demonstration on the ground continued for around two hours and the agitating students did not allow the function to proceed further. Amidst raising of slogans, they were demanding revocation of suspension of four students, action against Dean Students Welfare, improvement of wi-fi and food facilities in the hostels, installation of CCTV cameras etc.
Even as the Vice-Chancellor and some other faculty members sought to pacify the   agitating students, the latter refused to calm down and continued their protest. The high-voltage drama continued for around two hours and the students left the venue with a warning to continue the struggle till all their demands are conceded besides revocation of suspension of their four colleagues.
Meanwhile, taking a tough stand against the agitating students, the JU authorities today ordered suspension of one more student, identified as Nishant Gupta of Buddhist Studies, who was leading the protest today.
As per the order, issued by DSW Prof Satnam Kour, Nishant has been barred from entering on the campus besides residing in the hostel during the period of suspension.
Yesterday, four students were suspended and their entry was banned on the campus following ransacking of DSW office.
