JAMMU, Oct 24: At least three dozen protesting Medical Department daily rated workers were arrested when they were protesting in the Govt Medical College complex Bakshinagar here today.
At least 80 daily wage workers, mostly engaged in GMC Hospital Jammu and Super Speciality Hospital, assembled under the leadership of Rakesh Mehra and Kaushal Sharma outside OPD of the GMC Hospital at Bakshinagar in the morning at around 11 am and started protest demonstration. They were demanding their regularization and release of their pending wages. They were shouting slogans against the higher authorities and the concerned minister.
Under the banner of J&K Medical Department Daily Wager Union, these hapless workers are carrying on their agitation since long but the concerned authorities have turned indifferent attitude towards their plight. The Govt is hell bent to throw them out for their no fault despite the fact that many of them have rendered services of even more than five years. Their fate is hanging in balance.
Union leaders Rakesh Mehra, Kaushal Sharma besides senior Trade Unionists Babu Hussain Malik, Pardeep Kumar, Bharat Bushan, Yash Pal Sharma, Darshan Magotra, Seva Ram Rathore, Meenakshi Sharma and others also addressed the gathering and assured full support .
Later, on the instructions of GMC Principal police was called and the agitating workers were arrested and taken to Bakshinagar Police Station. The police also resorted to mild cane charge during action on the agitating workers. They were however released in the evening.
