Protesting parents lathicharged outside DyCM’s residence

JAMMU, Apr 14: Some parents protesting against the private schools over fee hike without following the Government norms, were lathicharged here today outside the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand.
The protesting parents were cane-charged after some of them allegedly tried to force their entry in the official residence of Tara Chand for submitting a memorandum, this evening, police said.
Shouting slogans against the school management and Government, the protesting parents were demanding a check on the private schools over fee structure.
The protest was organized under the banner of All Jammu Private Schools Parents Association while majority of the protesters were parents of the students of KC International and Banyan International Schools.
According to one of the protesters, they wanted to submit memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister, who holds the portfolio of Education, seeking action against the private schools for violating norms on annual fee hike.
Even as the parents claimed that they were thrashed without provocation, police said that the action was necessitated after some of the protesters turned violent and tried to force their entry into the Deputy Chief Minister’s residence.
One persons sustained injuries in the police action while the protesters dispersed off.
