JAMMU, June 24: Police today foiled self-immolation bid by one of the protesting wireless operators, here today.
Hundreds of wireless operators, protesting against the J&K Police Department demanding their re-absorption took out a protest rally from outside Press Club here.
They marched towards Tawi bridge during which one of the participants poured kerosene on himself and tried to immolate.
Meanwhile, police contingent deployed on the spot foiled his bid.
The protesters alleged that around 299 wireless operators were ousted from the department after rendering seven years of service.
“Despite ouster order stayed by the Jammu and Srinagar courts, they are still not absorbed by the department”, they added.
The protesters alleged that their families were starving and appealed to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and DGP to intervene and provide justice to them.
