Srinagar, Nov 30: Violent protests erupted in South Kashmir’s Anantnag Town today after a driver was allegedly thrashed by policeman.
Locals said a cop thrashed a sumo driver at near General Bus Stand along Khanabal-Pahalagam (KP) Road after the duo exchanged heated arguments over parking. “The cop ruthlessly thrashed the driver and he was injured. Later he was shifted to hospital for treatment,” they said.
The thrashing enraged the locals and they staged protests in the Town. The protesters blocked KP Road and raised anti-police slogan, paralyzing life in the town. They said the police officers tried to pacify the protesters but the latter refused to disperse.
“As the protesters weren’t dispersing from the spot, the police lobbed several teargas shells. The shelling created panic in the area while several protesters also pelted stones on police,” they said, adding later the situation returned to normal.
