JAMMU, Sept 21 : Protests sparked today after Friday prayers against anti-Islam video in this winter capital of the State.
Hundreds of Muslims under the banner of Muslim Welfare Society this afternoon assembled outside the main mosques of the city after Friday prayers and demonstrated against the US for releasing the blasphemous video.
Carrying banners and placards the protesters raised anti-US slogans and also burnt the US Flag demanding action against the person, who made the film.
The main protest was held outside Jamia Masjid in Talab Khatikan area of old city, which was led by senior and prominent members of the community. They demand immediate ban on blasphemous video.
Hundreds of Muslims drawn from different areas held a massive protest at Bhatindi and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic on Bye Pass. The protestors raising anti US slogans demanded immediate ban on blasphemous video. They also torched the US flag and effigy of President Barak Obama.
Raising anti US and anti Israel slogans, the protestors said the film has hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the globe. The protest demonstrations were held after Friday prayers in all the mosques of the city also which were addressed by their respective Imams. The protestors in one voice demanded capital punishment for the producer of the video film and its immediate ban.
Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces was made at the venues of protest to avoid any untoward like incident.
It may be recalled that Inspector General of Police, Jammu zone, yesterday appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors.
Reports coming from other places said that protest demonstrations were held outside the mosques after Friday prayers in Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Banihal and other places against the hate film and the protestors demanded its immediate ban.
In Poonch city hundreds of college students took out a procession from Degree College gate up to Eidgah Poonch. Shouting slogans against the US, the hate film and Israel they demanded immediate ban of the video film and capital punishment to film maker.
The procession was joined by hundreds of girl students also. Later a meeting of the all Imams of the town was held at Anwar- ul-Uloom under the leadership of Moulvi Farooq Imam of the Jamia Masjid Poonch in which the blasphemous act of US was strongly condemned. The Imams made an appeal to Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh asking him that the film be removed from website and demanded capital punishment for the film maker.
A total bandh was observed in Bhadarwah town against the blasphemous act with business establishments remaining closed on the call given by Anujman-e-Islamia Bhadarwah. The traffic was also off the roads. A procession was also taken into the town which after passing through various markets culminated at Jamia Masjid Bhadarwah. The Muslims also held protest demonstrations after Friday prayers and denounced the blasphemous movie which has hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the globe. Raising slogans they demanded death sentence for the film maker and a complete ban on movie.
The protest demonstrations were held at Ramban, Banihal, Chanderkote and Batote after the Friday prayers by members of Muslim community who demanded immediate ban on the blasphemous video.
Meanwhile NC Minority Cell leader Harmohinder Singh in a statement here today has strongly condemned the blasphemous act.
