JAMMU, Mar 13: The people from Thannamandi tehsil and Rajouri town held separate protest demonstrations against PDD authorities and also blocked road today.
Reports said that a large number of people including Panchayat members from Khabla village in Thannamandi came out on Rajouri-Thannamandi road today and sat on dharna. They also raised barricades. The villagers were raising slogans against PDD authorities and local administration. The movement of vehicles came to grinding halt at 9 am.
They villagers alleged that electric transformer went out of order about 25 days back but till today it could not be repaired by the PDD field staff despite repeated requests by the villagers. They alleged that no body seems to be accountable and Administration has also become in-affective.
Later, SDM Thannamandi Ashwani Kumar along with tehsildar Dr Kabir reached the spot. SHO with some force also later arrived at the spot. The SDM talked to Executive Engineer PDD about the issue. Then after the assurance of SDM and Tehsildar Thannamandi the people lifted dharna. The traffic on this road remained suspended for an hour and 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, residents of Ward No. 6 Rajouri today came out on the road and moved to the office of Divisional PDD office in the town and held protest demonstration against the Electric Department. They alleged that local transformer which went out of order about 10 days back has not been repaired. The people especially the students are facing lot of hardships. Later, the senior officials came out and assured the agitating people to replaced the damaged transformer.
