SRINAGAR, May 16: The protests by Kashmiri Pandits continued today in Kashmir against the killing of a KP Government employee, Rahul Bhat, inside his office in the Chadoora area of Budgam last week.
The protesting KPs held a candlelight march in several areas of the Valley in the evening to pay homage to their colleague and said that they will continue to protest until their demands are met.
In this regard, scores of Kashmiri Pandits, assembled at Kheerbhawani, Tulmulla area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district and staged a protest, seeking safety and justice for Rahul Bhat.
They were holding placards and photographs of their colleague even as they raised slogans against the Government
“An innocent Rahul was being killed in the office and the administration does not even know who committed the murder and where he fled,” one of the protestors said demanding that the administration should make strict security arrangements before any further bloodshed.
Another protester said that the administration has failed miserably in protecting them.
“Today we have been protesting here for four days but our DC Ganderbal has not come to us yet and redress our grievances,” he said.
In Budgam, the protest was also held inside the Pandit migrant colony where the protesters urged the LG administration to step up security and ensure a safe and secure environment for all of them.
Similar protests were also held in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district where the protesters also set afire effigies depicting the present government.
Angry with the administration, the protesters were demanding justice for their colleague who was killed in Budgam. “We are being deceived by the administration for their safety which they will never tolerate.”
In the Vessu area, a group of Kashmiri Pandit who have been on strike for the last five days demanded their relocation to safe places outside the Valley.
“The bloodshed should be stopped in their community,” the protesters demanded in the Veerwan migrant colony of Baramulla.
DC Baramulla Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, however, said that the KPs will be kept in safe locations and that the administration was taking necessary steps to ensure their safety.
