Protests in Sopore village over murder of civilian

Srinagar, Dec 13: Hundreds of residents of Behrampura village of Sopore in north Kashmir today staged protests against the murder of a vendor last evening and demanded identification and arrest of the killers.
Last evening, a cart vendor, Ghulam Muhammad Tantray, was killed by unidentified assailants after stabbing him in his neck with a knife. The vendor shortly breathed his last even as he was rushed to hospital.
The residents of the area including his family members today staged protests seeking justice. They urged police to speed up its investigation and arrest the killers. “The killers have gruesomely murdered an innocent civilian. They must be arrested and brought to justice,” the protesters said.
A senior police officer told Excelsior that they have registered a case under section 302 at Dangiwach Police Station and expressed hope that the killers would be nabbed within few days. “We are hopeful of cracking the case in two to three days,” he said.
