Protests over killing of youth

SRINAGAR, June 5: Sikhs today protested at several places in Kashmir valley against police firing on protesters killing a youth and injuring several others in Jammu yesterday.
Sikhs from this South Kashmir blocked the National Highway and held a protest demonstration against the killing of a Sikh youth in police firing in Jammu. The traffic remained disrupted on the National Highway for half an hour.
The protesters slammed police for firing on unarmed protesters and demanded stern action against the accused cops. The protests ended peacefully.
Scores of Sikh protesters appeared outside Gurudwara at Court Road and in Partap Park and held protests. They alleged that it was police which provoked people and led to the deterioration of the situation.
The protesters demanded judicial enquiry into the incident as well as suspension of accused cops.
In North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Sikh protesters assembled at Nanak Bhawan and Chhati Padshahi and protested against the killing of Jagjeet Sikh.
“If Government doesn’t stop its oppressive tactics we will come out on roads in Kashmir. If the incidents like Jammu are repeated then the situation would turn ugly turn,” the protesters said.
