Protests at various places against Govt failure to trace missing cop

JAMMU, May 28: To protest against the JK missing cop Kashmiri Pandits held protest demonstrations at various places today and also tried to block Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Jagti but the bid was foiled by police.
The protests were held at Nagrota TRT, Jagti township and Roop Nagar by the irate Pandits who criticized the State Government for its failure in tracing out the missing JKP cop Sameer Bhat for over last fortnight.
The Kashmiri Pandits of Nagrota TRT and Jagti township held a massive joint protest against the failure of the Government to trace the missing cop. The inmates of two camps took out a strong procession from TRT Nagrota upto Jagti and tried to block the Jammu -Srinagar National Highway but the police foiled their bid.
The protestors with banners and play cards in their hands were shouting slogans against the administration and its failure on locating the missing cop.
The Pandits have alleged foul play in the disappearance of the cop in view of increasing militancy in the Valley.
Hundreds of Kashmiri Pandit migrants from Nagrota and Jagti camps thronged the highway and held anti-government and anti-police protest for their laxity in the case.
Another protest was held by Kashmiri Pandits of Durga Nagar, Bantalab, Roop Nagar, TRT Muthi who took out a procession from Durga Nagar to TRT Buta Nagar and later held a massive demonstration at Buta Nagar Chowk.
The protestors demanded a CBI probe into the disappearance of the cop, They warned to intensify agitation in case the Government failed to trace the cop.
BJP senior leader Sheela Handoo,  its Mandal president  Makhan Lal, T N Koul, M K Pandita, Manoj Sharma, Rahul and other youth participated in the protest at Buta Nagar. While the protest at Nagrota was led by Daleep Kumar Bhat and at Jagti by Shadi Lal Pandita, Inder Ji Labroo and others.
However, based on the version of a Special Police Officer (SPO), who had accompanied the victim on the fateful day, the police said Kumar had gone to Kupwara along with a colleague and his uncle Head Constable Daleep Kumar.
“After dropping his uncle at the district police lines Kupwara, Kumar reached Yunsu bridge in the jurisdiction of police station Chogal Handwara and jumped into Puhro river,” a police spokesman said.
Accordingly, a missing report was lodged in the police station Shergari at Srinagar in the case.
Police said the matter was being probed from all angles, adding that marine commandos of the navy were also pressed into service along with the police to trace the officer.
