JAMMU, Sept 10: The flash floods, which hit the entire Kashmir valley, have also paralyzed the functioning of judiciary.
The official residence of Chief Justice at Sonawar has submerged in deep water. On the call received from his Personal Secretary, Chief Justice M M Kumar and his wife along with his daughter took shelter at Hari Niwas at 2 am on Saturday night. Within an hour, the official residence of the Chief Justice submerged in deep water. At Hari Niwas life has been difficult in the absence of drinking water and food.
The judiciary as an institution is worse affected. The High Court building at Srinagar is completely submerged in deep water. It appears that it will take a long time to restore the normal functioning of the High Court in the Srinagar wing.
Chief Justice has requested the State Government to restore the working of the High Court by providing the make shift arrangement at any other place in Srinagar till the building is restored. It may not be possible to deal with pending cases but the fresh petition could be entertained.
It has also been requested that the working of the courts in other parts of the State may also be restored and the life of judicial officers who are trapped in floods may also be saved.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice and his family today reached Jammu safely.
