JAMMU, Apr 14: BJP Kissan Morcha president, Omi Khajuria has said that the vegetable and other crop of farmers in Jammu will get perished due to lack of irrigation facilities.
In a statement issued here, today Khajuria said that water on Ranbir Canal as per the precedence was to be released on the occasion of Baisakhi every year but due to the spread of COVID-19 and announcement of nationwide lockdown the restoration work of the Ranbir Canal could not be completed till date owing to which the release of water in the canal has also been delayed. He said due to lack of irrigation facilities the farmers of Jammu are facing problems and there is every apprehension that the vegetable and other crops may get damaged.
He said the farmers in Jammu have already suffered a heavy loss due to unseasonal rains in last November and December months and now their hopes have again dashed to ground as they don’t get the irrigation facilities for the crop this season.
Khajuria in an appeal to Lt. Governor, G C Murmu has also demanded supply of combine machines to farmers on subsidy basis for harvesting the wheat crop as due to the COVID -19 threat the farmers can’t use the labour in bulk for harvesting the crop this time. He said unlike the farmers in Punjab J&K farmers don’t have the combine machines for harvesting the crop and Government should take measures to supply the same to them on subsidy basis.
