SAMBA, Aug 28: Former Minister and district president, Samba, Manjit Singh today said that PDD has failed to provide the needed electricity to the border villages and appealed not to compel the farmers to hold demonstration for the same.
“Administration should understand that people are in problem because electricity supply is not proper. Under these circumstances, the people should not be compelled to come on the road to project their demands,” said Manjit Singh, while speaking at a function organized to pay homage to two farmers killed in police firing 29 years back in Vijaypur. Two farmers namely Puran Singh and Ramesh Lal were killed and 25 others were wounded at that time in police firing during the peaceful protests in Vijaypur.
The former Minister garlanded the memorial site of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the farmer community.
To avoid similar situation in present circumstances, the administration must provide proper electricity supply to the tail-end villages along the International Border so that crops can be cultivated and watered properly, Manjit Singh, said.
