SAMBA, Sept 5: President All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) Jammu and Kashmir and former Mayor Jammu, Ch Manmohan Singh has said that it is only the grant of OBC status to Jats which can mitigate the problems of the community as in the case of other States and Union Territories.
While addressing Sabha’s convention here in Tehsil Rajpura, he asked all the Jats to get united and start the struggle to get the OBC status.
Raising other important issues, Ch Manmohan said that the displaced Jats are still living the life of refugees as despite abrogation of Article 370, the community is longing for ownership rights of the land allotted to them in the past. He demanded that Government must provide ownership rights and give compensation to Jats as was recommended as one time settlement to bail out the community from the misery and hardships.
Ch Manmohan Singh explained that the compensation for many chunks of land which have been occupied by the Government for various UT and Central Government purposes, is being given in favour of Custodian Department instead of Jat community members who have toiled hard to make these land chunks cultivable.
Expressing serious concern over rising drug activities, Addl Superintendent of Police, Samba, Surinder Choudhary, who was the special invitee, asserted that community as a whole should stand against the menace of drugs as the youth are fast falling prey to this scourge. He said that Jat community members are working in belt forces and that is why it becomes more important for them to save their children from drugs as the chances of youth getting addicted is high.
Lauding the role of Jats in defending the nation, Brigadier Pawan Sauntara (retired) said that it is a record that not a single infiltration attempt has been made by the enemy, terrorists or antinational elements along the areas where the Jat families are residing as these elements are fully aware of the fact that Jats are staunch pro-nationalist and ever prepared to even lay down their lives in defending the honour, dignity and integrity of the nation.
Tehsil President Darshan Singh and Nayav Tehsil President Darshan Lal and their team played an important role in organizing this event.
Avtar Krishna Chaudhary, Diwan Singh, Yashpal Singh, Darshan Singh, Captain Tirath Singh, Chaudhary Prempal, Chaudhary Satpal, Choudhary Rashpal, Chaudhary Ratan Singh, Chaudhary Madan Singh, Singer Prem Chaudhary, Prof Darshan Choudhary and Chaudhary Rakesh Satpal also spoke on the occasion.
