AKHNOOR, Dec 24: Viklang Chhatra Trust has urged upon the State Govt to provide regular pension to the handicapped persons, widows and old aged persons and keep provision in the Budget for the pension.
In a meeting of the members of the Trust held under the chairmanship of Satya Pal Saraf, organizer, the members expressed concern over the non-payment of pension to the members of these categories for the last few months. They said that Government must implement its order with regard to the payment of pension at the rate of Rs 1000 per month. They pointed out that despite declaration by the Government, the pension has not been enhanced.
Making appeal to the Legislators of the Upper and Lower House, the VCT members demanded that they must exert pressure on the State Government for enhancement of pension and regular information. They pointed out that due to cross border firing, shelling and mine blast incidents a large number of people have lost their limbs and turned handicapped. The J&K Govt has so far not provided even a single artificial limb to amputee or caliper to any deserving polio paralysed victim. The Govt must offer such assistance to the victims.
Mr Saraf demanded 3% reservation for the handicapped persons and its proper implementation on ground. They also should be provided representation in both the houses of Legislature. The Govt must raise old age homes in the State as per High Court order and schools for the differently abled persons. He also urged the MLAs to raise questions in the House on the welfare of the handicapped and old aged persons.
