Provide Rs 50 lakh insurance cover to PDD employees: JKEEGA

JAMMU, May 26: Expressing serious concern after an employee of JPDCL was found positive for Covid-19 yesterday in Jammu, J&K Electrical Engineering Graduates Association has demanded Rs 50 lakhs insurance cover for all the employees of PDD and allied Corporations.
A spokesman of the Association said that the Power engineers and employees are important stake holders during this pandemic as 24×7 uninterrupted power supply is the main requirement for all the essential departments to work smoothly. This crucial time, and even otherwise, almost every essential utility is supported by electricity.
Taking serious note of the issue, a delegation of JKEEGA led by its president, Harvrinder Singh called upon Managing Director JPDCL, Yasha Mudgal and apprised her about the panic in the minds of hundreds of Power employees in the field who are working round the clock 24×7 to provide smooth and reliable power supply amid COVID-19 infection spread. It has been seen that spike of infection has risen in last few days and Power Department employees are also not untouched to it.
They said during this COVID-19 pandemic situation, the engineers as well as employees of DISCOMS are at high risk as they have to visit the field areas for maintenance and repair of power network and to ensure 24×7 power supply to the quarantine centers spread across all over J&K. Besides the engineers as well as employees of Transmission, Generation and Trading Corporations have to ensure complete maintenance and upkeep of EHV lines and Grid Stations, Generation Power houses and SLDC.
JKEEGA demanded that Rs 50 lakhs Insurance cover as extended to Police personnel, Healthcare providers, Community Health workers and Private healthcare staff may also be extended to the engineers and employees of Power Development Department on deputation to Power Corporations of Union Territory of J&K or any other Insurance cover of similar pattern may kindly be provided during this COVID-19 pandemic.
MD JPDCL gave a patient hearing to all the genuine demands of the association and assured that she will put forward the genuine demands of the association to the higher authorities.
