SAMBA, Mar 6: An awareness camp was organized today by Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner, Samba, Zahoor Ahmed, at SIDCO Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana.
Sudershan Kumar, Additional Provident Fund Commissioner, Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. A large number of representatives of labour unions, employers and employees participated in the camp.
The main objective of organizing the camp was to bring awareness among the labour class/subscribers regarding the social security schemes being run under the J&K Employees Provident Fund Act-1961.
While highlighting the social security schemes under the J&K Employees Provident Fund Act-1961, Sudershan Kumar, Ahsanulhaq, Deputy Provident Fund Commissioner (Central) and Zahoor Ahmed explained that presently two schemes are being run under Employees Provident Fund Act i,e. Employees Provident Fund Scheme and Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme.
“Under Employees Provident Fund Scheme, a worker contributes @ 12% of his wages while the employer contributes matching share of contribution in favour of the worker which is deposit on monthly basis in the provident fund organization. The worker also gets compound interest @ 8.5% per annum on his total Provident Fund accumulations. Under the Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme, the nominees get insurance cover upto Rs 75,000 based on contributions of the deceased member”, they said.
They informed labourers that without awareness, the benefits of such schemes could not reach the labour class. It was also informed that in the near future, the organization is going to launch online submission of Provident Fund Returns also.
