NEW DELHI, Oct 5: The Public Relations Society Delhi (PRSD), in collaboration with Comms Adda, hosted the “Communication Conclave 2024” at the Constitution Club of India to mark the Gandhi Jayanti.
The event featured two panel discussions and a keynote address by Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The first panel, titled “Gandhian Communication: Catalyst for India’s Freedom Struggle,” examined Mahatma Gandhi’s communication techniques and their relevance today.
Dr Sarvesh Tiwari, Chairman of PRSD, moderated the session, which featured prominent speakers including Srijan Pal Singh, Shishir Sinha, Rakesh Sharma, and Dr Jawahar Karnawat.
Srijan Pal Singh highlighted how AI and generative technology are transforming information sharing but emphasized Gandhi’s skill in mobilizing people through simple yet powerful non-violent messages.
Shishir Sinha discussed Gandhi’s mastery of the 7-38-55 rule, focusing on the importance of non-verbal communication.
Rakesh Sharma reflected on how symbols like Gandhi’s lathi represented strength and non-violence, while Dr Jawahar Karnawat emphasized Gandhi’s use of print media to spread his ideas of justice and truth.
In the second panel, top women PR leaders discussed purpose-driven communication’s role in social change.
Moderated by Dr Samir Kapur, the session featured Tehseen Zaidi, Akshita Agrawal, Akanksha Jain and Jyoti Rai.
While Tehseen Zaidi spoke about the impact of CSR initiatives on empowering rural women and farmers Akshita Agrawal shared her journey in overcoming stereotypes and stressed the value of a woman’s perspective in PR.
Akanksha Jain highlighted women’s emotional intelligence in crafting impactful campaigns, while Jyoti Rai shared her experiences in health and education advocacy, noting communication’s role in eradicating polio in India.
In his keynote address, Anuj Dayal called for the elevation of the PR profession in India to global standards, pointing out that PR professionals often lack recognition compared to their counterparts abroad.
He urged that the contributions of PR professionals be acknowledged with prestigious awards like the Padma Awards.
