SRINAGAR, July 2: Abdul Latief U Zaman Deva, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhavan today.
Deva briefed Governor about the to-date functioning of the J&K PSC and the continuing improvements being made by the Commission in the timely conduct of various examinations viz J&K Combined Services Competitive Examination (KAS), KCS (Judicial), Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), besides, efforts being made to conduct selection of Medical Officers.
Further, the present status of efforts underway to fill vacancies in Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department and the road map being prepared to expedite recruitment of Assistant Professors in higher education was also discussed.
Governor emphasised the high importance of the Commission maintaining unimpeachable standards and urged the Chairman to ensure timely conduct of exams and interviews and selection of candidates with greater transparency and efficiency.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir also met Governor Satya Pal Malik, Chancellor of the University and briefed him about various issues of academic and administrative importance relating to the University.
Governor congratulated the Vice Chancellor on the University obtaining A+ Accreditation Grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Besides, the Governor advised Prof. Ahmad to bring examination reforms on priority basis, restore the academic schedule and ensure more productive academic and research activities. VC informed Governor that in order to streamline the academic calendar and to ensure timely admission of students to various Post Graduate programmes, the admission test will be held twice in a year till the academic schedule is restored.
He further informed that various innovative measures are also underway to make examination services more efficient. Governor urged VC to ensure that examination sub offices for Ladakh region are made to work efficiently.
VC briefed Governor on major international collaborative research projects earned by the University with countries viz US, Canada, Finland and Germany in areas such as biodiversity, plate tectonics, geology and climate change.
Prof. Mushtaq A. Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) also met Governor and briefed him about various issues relating to the academic and administrative importance and the initiatives undertaken by the University to develop it as a centre of quality teaching and research activities.
Governor emphasized that the educational interest of the entire student community should be promoted and safeguarded by adoption of various innovative and reformative measures.
Governor congratulated the IUST for being included by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Switzerland in its global project on Reasses-sment of World Swallowtail Butterflies.
