SRINAGAR, Apr 12: The much hyped Cabinet decision of creation of more than 1100 posts for Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department has fallen flat as the Public Service Commission authorities have not advertised the posts despite the fact that 75 percent posts already stand referred to the Commission.
The Higher Education Department had on January 28 this year referred 847 posts out of the 1129 posts of Assistant Professors meant for different colleges to the Public Service Commission. However, despite the lapse of more than two months the posts have not been advertised by the Commission, thus, giving sleepless nights to the thousands of aspirants. On its part, the Higher Education Department has also not followed up the issue of the referral of posts, putting the whole process in a quandary.
Along with the referral of the posts the Higher Education Department also sent the subject wise break up to the Public Service Commission so that the posts could be advertised according to the requirements of the degree colleges in the State. However, the delay in the advertisement notice has put the career of thousands of highly qualified candidates at stake.
The Government had issued order 317-HE of 2012 dated 3-8-2012 according to which 1129 posts of Assistant Professors were created in various degree colleges of the State. The posts were created only after being cleared by the Cabinet and it was expected that the posts would be referred to the Public Service Commission very soon.
The Higher Education Department took around six months to refer the posts to Public Service Commission and since then the posts have not been advertised. However, the department is yet to refer the remaining 282 posts of Assistant Professors to the Public Service Commission.
It would be in place to mention here that Public Service Commission had sought clarification on the legality of degrees obtained by candidates from the study centers affiliated to various outside universities while applying for the posts advertised by the Commission. This was the reason that the Higher Education Department took around six months to refer the posts to the Commission.
The State Government has through a circular mentioned the names of institutions and Universities whose degrees are valid in the state. The State Government, through its order number 252 of General Administrative Department (GAD) dated 30-5- 2012 has spelt out the validity of degrees awarded by various study centres of different open universities in the country.
