JAMMU, Sept 26: In a major development, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children Youth and Sports, has endorsed the Design Your Degree initiative of the University of Jammu and recommended to University Grants Commission for its inclusion in the National Curriculum.
The Parliamentary Committee had visited J&K on 1st September 2023, and interacted with various stakeholders. JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai had made a detailed presentation before the visiting Parliamentary delegation at Srinagar on 1st September 2023.
The report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, which was published on 25th September 2023, reads “UGC should also take up the ‘Design Your Degree’ initiative of the University of Jammu and look after the feasibility and promotion. It may review the National Curriculum framework in compliance with the recommendation of the National Education Policy and to accommodate new innovative ideas such as ‘Design Your Degree.”
It is also pertinent to mention here that UGC Chairman, Prof Mamdala Jagadesh Kumar, during the Akhil Bhartiya Siksha Samagam 2023 at IECC Paragati Maidan, New Delhi, had also appreciated the innovative initiative – Design Your Degree Program launched by the University of Jammu and also shared the same on the official UGC Twitter handle. It is further to mention here that the “Design Your Degree” program at the University of Jammu represents a paradigm shift in higher education, empowering students to tailor their academic journey to their individual interests and career goals. Design Your Degree places a strong emphasis on equipping students with practical skills that are in demand in today’s growing job market, preparing them for successful careers.
