SRINAGAR, Mar 10: Private Schools United Front has alleged that the recent Government decision to grant mass promotion to the students of Class I-IX and XI was too late and too little.
Addressing a press conference, here today,  the PSUF  president G N Var said that the announcement came after an agonizing period of six months for the students who had even developed psychological problems due to uncertainty over session, examination and so on.
“After the September floods, private schools proposed mass promotions with immediate effect but the Government at that time rejected it without even discussing. They even raided and harassed our schools. And now as they announced the mass promotion, our stand is vindicated,” he said.
Mr Var demanded an impartial inquiry to identify the persons who sabotaged mass promotion in October.  On what basis did they shift session to March 2015 only to be taken back now? Who were experts/educationists (if any) involved in drafting this policy? he asked and explained that the students who had lost books for 2014 session had to buy the same books again. “Now as they are given mass promotion, they have to buy 2015 session books. Who is going to compensate these poor children and their parents,” he further asked and added that the Government should depoliticize education and adopt a professional approach in this regard.
The PSUF leader opined that March session is the best that can happen to students. “It can eliminate the need for coaching that will save their parents money. It will make our students at par with national level competitive exams where our winter session is not counted and our students lose one year,” he added.
President of the Coordination Committee of Private School Associations (CCPSA), Dr Mushtaq Ahmad and Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) president, Showkat Choudhary were also present in the press conference.
