MENDHAR, Dec 16: Terming participative rural development as the hallmark of Panchayti Raj Institutions (PRIs), Javed Ahmed Rana, senior National Conference leader and MLA Mendhar, called for proactive sustained efforts to increase the participation of unemployed rural workforce for overcoming seasonal unemployment and increasing rural expenditure.
MLA said this while inaugurating Panchayat Ghar at Gohlad Malikpur executed by the Rural Development Department (RDD) in Mendhar panchayat.
He asked for continuous sustained efforts to bring about tangible development in far-flung and hilly areas of Mendhar, through participative planning and implementation of different works. The lawmaker also visited Nakka Manjheri and Phambranar panchayats of Mendhar block and took stock of various development works.
Block Development Officer Mendhar, Tariq Aziz, officers and officials of RDD and REW besides Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area accompanied the MLA.
Referring to MGNREGA as a vital means of sustenance for rural poor and unemployed, Rana asked the RDD authorities for cent-percent coverage of all eligible persons in each village so that no one is left out of the guaranteed wage employment scheme. He called for creation of more job cards. Besides, the MLA reminded the PRIs representatives and RDD functionaries of their role in ensuring participation of people in the planning and decision making process for effective implementation of development programmes.
Rana who has already earmarked a substantial amount of his CD funds for development works under convergence with MGNREGA, urged the RDD functionaries to innovatively utilise resources under MGNREGA in convergence with other developmental schemes so that while providing guaranteed employment, durable and productive assets are created.
MLA exuded confidence that with the conduct of forthcoming Pachayat elections, a new vigour and enthusiasm will be injected into PRIs, thereby facilitating participative socio-economic planning and development.
