Cops deny medicare to injured woman

MENDHAR, June 15: Irate public staged strong protest against Gursai police here today for denying immediate medical treatment to seriously injured woman and arresting her husband and minor son and sparing the attackers to move freely in Galuta area of Mendhar in district Poonch.
The woman, Zarina (35), who along with her husband, Mohd Majid, a PHE daily wager, was attacked by her two brothers-in-law and others, at around 9 pm about 200 meters away from their house late last evening, kept lying unconscious and bleeding on the spot for long. She was helped and removed to house by her wailing- minor children. The police was informed at around 10 pm about the incident but the injured could reach hospital only around 2 am midnight due to negligence on the part cops at Gursai Police Station.
The injured husband who escaped from the spot reached police station to narrate the whole incident. The cops instead of going to the spot and shifting the victim to hospital asked to bring the woman to Police Station. The poor and hapless husband and son brought Zarina to Police Station at around 11 pm. The cops then detained both husband and minor son in-spite of helping.
The brother of injured woman, Mohd Bashir and a cousin, Liaqat also reached Police Station after coming to know about the incident. They shifted the injured victim to Mendhar hospital at around 2 pm on foot, walking nearly 8 km distance.
The woman was just provided first aid and thereafter, no one came to attend her. In the morning, the relatives of the woman placed her on stretcher and took to SDPO’s office but he was not available. Then they placed the woman at the Main Chowk, Mendhar and started protest against police. The locals also joined them. They condemned police act and alleged that there was no rule of law and monitoring by senior officers.
Later, SDM Mendhar Ranjit Singh and SHO Mendhar arrived there. The people demanded arrest of accused and action against SHO and other staff at Gursai Thana. They also demanded shifting of staff at Gursai police stations.
On the assurance of SDM, the people lifted dharna after an hour. The people collected donations for this poor family and helped shifting the victim to GMC Hospital Jammu. The attackers, Mohd Rafiq and Modh Shafiq, sons of Wazir Mohd were not arrested till late this evening. Majid is a daily wage employee in PHE and has eight minor children. Some land dispute was said to be the reason behind the incident.
SSP Poonch, Shamsheer Hussain said that it was clash between two families over some property dispute. An FIR was lodged against one family while, other party also tried to lodge counter FIR. He said one lady has been attacked with sharp edged weapons and hospitalised. The police was investigating into the matter. The police said one Rafiq was also injured in the incident.
