SRINAGAR, June 27: A Government school in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been closed for last three days as incessant rains inundated its ground and surroundings with Government failing to carry out dewatering so far.
The incessant downpour, which created flood-like situation across Kashmir, inundated Government Higher Secondary School Kakapora. The students told Excelsior that the school is closed since last three days.
“This is not the first time that the school has been inundated. Whenever heavy rains occur, our school premises get flooded,” a student, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, adding: “the concerned authorities have failed to curb this inundation problem which directly affects our studies.”
The students further said that the water had also entered few classrooms of the school.
Ironically, the authorities haven’t carried out dewatering of the school ground and its surroundings so far. The students of the school today shifted various equipments of the institute to safer places.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama, Mohammad Lateef, said that he will take up the issue of dewatering with Deputy Commissioner. “We will definitely take up the issue with Deputy Commissioner today. In case, the dewatering could not be carried out as of now, we will then make alternative arrangement for the students at some other place till the problem is sorted out,” he said.
