Pulwama Lok Adalat settles flood victims’ cases

Pulwama, Nov 27: A Lok Adalat was held in the District Court Complex here  under the chairmanship of Abdul Rashid Malik, Principal District and Sessions Judge Pulwama.
The other members of the bench were Laiq Parvez, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Syed Sajad Qadri, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Pulwama. The bench heard the grievances of  flood victims of Kakapora area of District Pulwama which was badly affected by the recent flash floods and heavy rains. Eleven cases were settled in the Lok Adalat relating to structures damaged in the floods. The houses which were severely damaged and are likely to collapse as per the report of Civil Engineers were treated as fully damaged. Chairman District Legal Services Authority Pulwama has referred three thousand cases of flood victims to the National Lok Adalat.
Further, with a view to address the problems of marginalized sections of the society and to provide free and competent legal services to women, children, disabled, old aged and BPL, 5321 cases of these people have also been referred to the National Lok Adalat in order to ensure the payment of monitory benefits under different social welfare schemes formulated by the State Government and Central Government for these people.
Cases relating to maintenance, motor accident claims, compoundable criminal offences, labour cases, family disputes have also been referred to the National Lok Adalat to be held on December 6, 2014 in town hall Pulwama.
All the interested persons falling in there categories have been notified to approach Chairman District Legal Services Pulwama for settlement of their grievances.
District Administration Pulwama headed by by Deputy Commissioner Sajad Ahmad Khan, Additional DC Pulwama Laiq Parvez, Assistant Commssioner Revenue Syed Sajad Qadri, SSP Pulwama, and District Social Welfare Officer Pulwama, branch managers of insurance companies, labour officers, officers under the food safety act have been participating in the pre Lok Adalat  sessions convened by the Chairman District Legal Services Authority in order to ensure settlement of maximum number of grievances/cases in the National Lok Adalat.
