PULWAMA, Jan 8: Residents of Gudoora and adjoining areas have demanded early completion of Gudoora bridge on Romushi rivulet in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district that was damaged by floods in September, bringing vehicular movement to a halt for more than fifteen days.
The residents said that the bridge falls on Pulwama Nowgam road which is a lifeline of the district as it is the only alternative route to Srinagar for the people of Shopian and Pulwama.
They said that this route also reduces pressure of vehicular movement as most of the vehicles from Pulwama and Shopian
ply on this road to avoid nasty traffic jams on Srinagar Jammu National Highway.
Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Gudoora said that soon after the bridge was washed away, Army constructed a diversion making the road feasible for vehicular movement, adding that the diversion is lying low and would become defunct soon after the water level rises in March.
“Most of the people who try to avoid traffic jam prefer Newa route on which the vehicular movement is hassle free,” said another resident Sajad Ahmad.
Meanwhile, a top official of Roads and Buildings (R&B) said that the Department knew the importance of the bridge and they would soon start work on it.
