Pulwama villages reel under darkness

Srinagar, Oct 14: The residents of several villages in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district are reeling under darkness due to what they say callous attitude of the Power Development Department officials.
Irate locals of Ratnipora, Malangpora, Quoil, Pathan and Babhara villages told Excelsior that with the onset of autumn, unscheduled power cuts have become a norm in these villages.
The locals said they have been getting erratic power supply for the last week and despite repeated complaints to the PDD officials their problem has not been mitigated yet.
Interestingly, Ratnipora village is home to a Parliament Member, Ghulam Nabi Wani. But locals said repeated requests to Wani fell on deaf ears.
Similarly, other villages echoed the resentment against the PDD officials and their legislator.
“Our MLA, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, has not been able to alleviate us from our problems. We have repeatedly complained to him about the erratic power supply, but he didn’t take the people to task,” said villagers of Malangpora.
The residents of these villages have threatened to take to streets if the PDD and their representatives in Legislative Houses fail to improve the power supply.
Executive Engineer Transmission, Mirza Ayoub, told Excelsior attempted to brush off the villagers’ complaints against the department.
“We have not received any such complaint from the people of these areas. If any problem exists, we will look into it,” Ayoub said.
