SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Aneesa Iqbal, a 29-year-old entrepreneur from Arihal village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, makes sustainable soaps to support her dream of becoming a doctor.
She is receiving widespread praise for defying societal norms and skilfully balancing her small business with her education, aiming for financial independence.
Aneesa is preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which grants admission to medical colleges across the country to pursue an MBBS degree. “I am preparing for the NEET exams. While studying, the idea struck me that I should start a small business alongside my preparation, as I cannot be dependent on others all the time,” she said.
In her modest home in Arihal, Aneesa explained that she crafts eco-friendly; handmade soaps that are gentle on the skin and have minimal environmental impact. She also produces scented candles and plans to launch shampoos soon to expand her product line. Her venture helps finance her dream of pursuing a medical career. “I make organic beauty soaps, bath soaps, and scented candles, and we are launching shampoos as well. I have been doing this business for the last five months and wanted to expand it. I started from scratch on my own,” she said.
Aneesa credits her parents for supporting her efforts. “I have full support from my parents, and when I am studying, my mom helps me,” she added.
She sells her products online and to wholesale shopkeepers who show significant interest in eco-friendly items. Through her initiative, she not only earns an income but also provides employment to nearly half a dozen local women.
