PUNE, Dec 24: City-based Urokul Hospital has introduced a unique procedure for prostate gland treatment for first time in India.
The technique, called ‘Rezum therapy’, is a 10-minute procedure rather than a conventional two hours operation, without any complications, said Dr Sanjay Kulkarni, renowned urologist and founder of Urokul Hospital at Baner.
Addressing a press conference at hospital, Dr Kulkarni explained the benefits of Rezum therapy, saying that “As a solution to traditional ‘Transurethral Resection of the Prostate’ (TURP) procedure, Urokul has come up with this revolutionary technology.
In this procedure, the enlarged part of the prostate gland is dissolved non-surgically with help of steam injections and costs around Rs four lakh, he said.
This is usually an outpatient procedure done under local anaesthesia that lasts for about 10 minutes, he informed.
The patient is discharged the same day after 2-4 hours, Dr Kulkarni said.
Over a few weeks, the patient’s body naturally absorbs the treated prostate tissue, shrinking prostate, he added. (UNI)
